World Glaucoma Day, the focus of more than 1000 events and programs in over 60 countries for the past two years, has been expanded to become World Glaucoma Week, observed this year from March 7 to 13.
The observance is a joint initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association. "It's a global effort, with the sum total of all the local activities making a real impact in raising the awareness of glaucoma worldwide," says Scott R. Christensen, President of The Glaucoma Foundation and the World Glaucoma Patient Association.
Here in the U.S., The Glaucoma Foundation is a co-sponsor of the Capitol Hill Luncheon Briefing on Glaucoma, an Alliance for Eye and Vision Research event for legislators and their staff in Washington, DC.
Locations around the world have been logging in - reporting on their plans for screenings, conferences, educational events, special activities and media coverage. To see what's being planned from Australia, Bulgaria, Chile and Egypt to the United Arab Emirates, go to www.wgday.net and click on "Around the World."
